It is an ancient temple carved on to a massive rock formation in the Kaviyoor area of Thiruvalla in the Pathanamthitta district. The temple is one of the earliest found instances of stone sculptures in the southern state of Kerala in India. The cave temple is dedicated to the Hindu god, Shiva and its construction resembles the Pallava Art tradition from the late 8th Century.
