Fortuny Theater was founded in 1882 driven by the core leader of the bourgeoisie Reus and motivated by the need to give Reus a theater comparable to the first Catalan towns.

The Fortuny opened its doors on 16 November 1882 with Gounod's opera Faust. The theater was built according to the tastes of the time abarrocats under the direction of architect Francesc Blanc and the decorator Josep M.
