Oaxen is a small island south of Södertälje in Sweden. Throughout history, Oaxen has been dominated by limestone cracking in surface fractures. This began in the 19th century and it still gives the island a special landscape. During its great time, nearly 250 people worked on the lime fracture. One third of these were employed to transport wood to the lime kilns. The cracking ended in 1974.
