In the 1920s cotton was planted in the region on a grand scale, so a need for a dock emerged, which was built in 1925 out of concrete. In 1972 the harbor was closed down and the dock was laid in, as meanwhile better transporting possibilities were offered by the nearby Panamericana highway. But it is still there and it is a popular place for fishing or helps the surfers to get to the famous waves of Cerro Azul by a courageous jump.
