Chacao Bridge - Central Pillar - Under Construction 2023
Chile
The Chacao Bridge is a construction project for a bridge that will span the Chacao Channel, connecting the Big Island of Chiloé with the Chilean mainland in the Los Lagos Region. It will be the longest suspension bridge in Latin America, with a length of 2,750 meters. The bridge will be supported by three towers or pillars, measuring 199 meters (Pargua), 175 meters (Roca Remolino), and 157 meters (Chacao) in height. Construction of the bridge commenced in 2017, and it is expected to be completed by 2025. The project has faced criticism due to its high cost, questions about its practical utility, and concerns about potential environmental and cultural impacts associated with the definitive connection of the Chiloé archipelago to the mainland.
