View from top of the castle tower across Pula

Pula (Latin: Colonia Pietas Iulia Pola; Italian: Pola; Slovene: Pulj) is the largest city in Istria County, Croatia. Pula is situated at the southern tip of the Istria peninsula. Like the rest of the region it is known for its mild climate, tame sea, and unspoiled nature. The city has a long tradition of winemaking, fishing, shipbuilding, and tourism. Pula has also been Istria's administrative centre since ancient Roman times.

The peninsula is located at the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and the Bay of Kvarner. It is shared by three countries: Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
