Baden-Wuerttemberg

Hohentwiel is an extinct volcano in the Hegau near Singen. Since 914 A.D. a fortress exists on top of the Hohentwiel. The fortress was constantly extended over the centuries. In 1800 A.D. the fortress was demolished by the French. It is the largest fortress ruin in Germany.
