Lesko - Jewish cemetery #2
Bieszczady

Jewish cemetery in Lesko (in Yiddish: Linsk, Lisk) is considered as one of the most precious in Poland . Till present many gravestones still exist and the oldest matzeva dates back to the 11th September 1548 (the 9th tiszri 5309 according to Jewish calendar) and its inscription says: "Here is buried man, God fearing, Eliezer son of Meszulam (may the memory of the just be blessed) on Tuesday the 9th day of month tiszri 309 according to the shortened calculus".

The cemetery is situated in the neighborhood of a synagogue on the hill at crossroad of Slowackiego and Moniuszki street. The steep stairs lead to the oldest part of the necropolis with medieval matzevas. On the tope of the hill there are later gravestones. more...
