Huigra es una parroquía muy antigua en donde funcionó por mucho tiempo la Gerencia del tren que recorría entre la costa y la Sierra. El trabajo fue contratado por el Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Municipal del Cantón Alausí, el mismo que muestra las Rutas Turísticas existentes en el mismo.
