Tomar, Santa Maria dos Olivais , Main Chapel

Gothic temple from the middle of the 13th century built on the site of the old Templar church built by D. Gualdim, and known as Santa Maria do Selho, for being located in the Sellium site.

The Pantheon of the Templar Masters was the seat of nullius diocesis with jurisdiction over the churches of the Discoveries. The interesting spatial structure of three naves served as a model for the church of São João Baptista and other churches of the Portuguese final Gothic.

Outside, the magnificent rose window stands out, the watchtower tower adapted to the belfry, and the 16th century loggia; in the interior, the tombstone of Gualdim Pais, the tomb of D. Diogo Pinheiro and the images Nossa Senhora do Leite and Santas Mães.

In this century Gothic church. XIII, built on a Benedictine monastery, the Templar soul lives since the beginning of the nation. It was the Pantheon of Knights, like Mestre D. Gualdim Pais, whose tombstone remains here today. In addition to the Templar signs, the rose window and bell tower, an ancient Roman watchtower - watchtower, stand out. From the 16th century reform he inherited the side chapels.
