Whiteface Mountain in the Adirodacks. The U shaped lake benearh the sun is Lake Placid and it's shape is due to perpendicular intersecting faults. The castle on the summit was built by the WPA in the 1930's. A paved two lane road ends in a parking lot 300 feet beneath the summit, then a 500 foot long tunnel leads to an elevator to the top. The elevator and tunnel were installed so FDR could access the summit in his wheelchair.
