Empúries is the only archaeological site in the Iberian Peninsula where the remains of a Greek city, Emporion, coexist with those of a Roman city, Emporiae. The Greeks were there between the 6th century BC and the 5th century AD and built this Western Greek colony and an important port with a great commercial activity.
