A view from the bottom of Meteorite Crater near Duckwater, Nevada.  It is 225 feet in diameter & 10-15 feet in depth w/ no pronounced rim (unless you're viewing it from this angle).  The feature has been prevalent in the landscape for some time by the channels & silt having flowed into the depression overtime.  The crater was first documented on August 4, 1936 as Ralph Irwin of Duckwater encouraged scientists to have it examined.  While excavations have been made at this spot, no meteorites have been found to date, despite its official name.  Some of the rocks at the site do appear to be volcanic in origin (w/ plagioclase inclusions), though not exclusively.  The true origin of the feature may never be known, however the two theories of its formation are either extra-terrestrial or a limestone sink (one apparently covered by eons of alluvium).
