Greenville - Dixie Fire aftermath (aerial)
California

This 150' aerial view overlooks the destruction of the town of Greenville, California following the Dixie Fire, an ongoing fire with lingering hot spots at the time of this panorama.  The fire has burned 963,309 acres & is the single largest wildfire in recorded California history & most expensive ever at $637.4 million; it is the second largest fire in the state after the August Complex which occurred during the summer of 2020.  According to Cal Fire, the Dixie Fire was started on July 13, 2021 in the Feather River Canyon near Cresta Dam by a tree contacting a PG&E distribution line.  The fire reached Greenville on August 4 along with the nearby community of Canyondam.  Greenville, which had a population of 1,129 citizens at the 2010 census, is the latest town to be destroyed during the ongoing drought that has hit the West Coast of America in recent years.  Roughly 75% of the town was destroyed including the library, fire department, & historic downtown.  A fire in the town's earlier days in 1881 also destroyed many buildings.
